At least one of them isn’t obsolete, I promise!

To access the internet in the 90’s, those of us who owned computers, yanked the lines out of the back of our rotary phones and jammed them into our modems. We waited for 10+ minutes while America Online dialed countless local numbers.

I can’t properly express the excitement we felt when we finally heard the magic tone that meant we were online!

What awaited us in this magical place called AOL? Within the realm were chat rooms, web sites, and electronic mail! With the world at the tip of our fingers, the dating game had changed.

There was no template for online dating. We learned our lessons the hard way, so the next generation wouldn’t have to.

5: Ask For A Photo

I learned this lesson on my very first internet date. I met a man through a Yahoo! chatroom. He seemed nice, and he said he was a little older. I didn’t ask him for a photo. I thought about it, but it seemed rude somehow.

Back then, getting a photo online wasn’t easy. You had to have your photo scanned then uploaded. Most people didn’t own scanners, and we would mail a photo to a company who would scan the photo and email it to us.
